Yesterday, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, announced that Sony has welcomed teamLFG into the PlayStation Studios family. He further revealed that the studio has already begun working on an ambitious incubation project.
Old and Young Blood
The team is said to be comprised of industry veterans who have worked on games like Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, Fortnite, Roblox, and Rec Room as well as newcomers with fresh perspectives looking to leave a mark on the industry with their skills and creativity. teamLFG will have members working both on-site and remotely throughout the U.S. and Canada.
New Multiplayer Title in The Works
In a statement, the newly unveiled studio revealed that they are currently working on a team-based action game in which players will inhabit a lighthearted, comedic world set in brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe. The studio claims that they’ve taken inspiration from many games such as fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games. Yes, you read that right, frog-type games. more on that later.
Sony Continues Pushing Live-service Games
teamLFg also mentioned that its important for them to quickly respond to player feedback, stating “It’s critical that we stay nimble enough to react to player feedback, not just in our lead-up to launch, but throughout live service as we continue to grow the game and community for years to come.” With this statement they also confirm that this will be yet another live-service game released by Sony, despite the commercial failure of Concord.
Frog-Type Games?
We’re not entirely sure what teamLFG means by saying that they’re taking inspiration from ‘frog-type’ games. There are only a handful of notable games based on frogs in recent times and they’re are all indie titles. Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge (2024) – A cozy farming sim where your main objective is to restore a wetland sanctuary by mainly collecting and breeding frogs. Frog Detective: The Entire Mystery (2018 ) – A humorous point-and-click adventure series where you play as Frog Detective solving quirky mysteries. Frogsong (2023) A heartfelt action RPG where you play as a tiny tree frog in a lively fantasy world.
It would be interesting to see how the studio would incorporate any elements of the above mentioned games and implement into their own project, of course we’re all just speculating at this point.
